It's officially fall, and I am so ready for alllll of the autumn recipes! Let's kick it off with this cozy autumn spritz cocktail recipe, shall we?

One of my favorite cocktails of all time is the Aperol Spritz.

It's classic, it's refreshing, and just so dang delicious. The traditional Aperol Spritz has three ingredients:

    • Aperol
    • Prosecco
    • Sparkling water
    Autumn aperol spritz

If you've never heard of Aperol, it's an Italian aperitif. An aperitif is a spirit you have before dinner - and when I visit Italy, I sip these alllll the time.

But don't fear - you don't need to visit Italy to drink an Aperol Spritz. You can buy it at most grocery stores, or even on Amazon! Check out a three pack here.

You typically garnish an Aperol Spritz with a lemon, orange, or lime. Or all three!

So with the weather getting cooler, I wanted a version of this cocktail that I could carry over with me into fall and through the holidays.

    An Autumn Twist

This recipe still has the traditional Aperol, Prosecco, and sparkling water, but with a few ingredients to make it a little bit stronger for those chilly fall nights.

The secret to this delicious autumn spritz?

A little bit of rye whiskey and red sweet vermouth.

First, the rye whiskey adds a little punch to this cocktail. It definitely makes this stronger - but adds a little more fire to the drink. It's not super overpowering, but adds flavor, and I love that!

Next, the red sweet vermouth really makes this drink feel like fall. My husband has been using an Italian red sweet vermouth in a lot of cocktails lately, and I'm loving the additional flavor it's giving to our cocktail recipes.

Just an ounce of each go a long way in this cocktail!

One note - you'll want a nice and big glass like a wine glass or highball for this recipe. This will ensure you have room for the delicious Prosecco in this cocktail.

    Cocktail with mums

With football season coming back, this is a perfect gamely cocktail when you're looking to drink something citrusy but you don't want a beer or seltzer.

Or, it's a great way to wind down on a chilly Friday night as the sky gets darker each night.

No matter how you enjoy - this cocktail is a winner. Cheers!
