Easy and spicy Asian inspired chili oil noodles are honestly one of my favorite things right now!
I've been working out a lot lately, which means that I'm extra hungry. As a food blogger, I'm already to begin with, so this extra hunger calls for some delicious reinforcements.
This is where this recipe comes in. This deliciously filling recipe will awaken your taste buds and make a quick and easy dinner a breeze.
About Chili Oil
Have you had chili oil? Chili oil is exactly what it sounds like - chili peppers and oil.
You can use many different types of oil and hot peppers, and sometimes chili oil will have other elements like soybeans or peanuts.
This is a super common condiment in Chinese cuisine. One of my favorite thing about Chinese food is getting the house-made chili oil and seeing how much of it I can handle. I'm a glutton for punishment.
Let me warn you - it's HOT. But it is SO good, and as you start incorporating chili oil into your dishes, you won't want to stop.
I always buy my chili oil at my local Asian grocery store. Luckily, there are two stores within a mile of my house, so it's super convenient for me.
You could buy chili oil at a large grocery store, but I like supporting locally owned family store whenever I can. Plus, Asian grocery stores always have a great variety of sauces, a fantastic noodle selection, and I always learn something about food every time I go.
If for some reason you can't find it at the store, you can always buy some on Amazon. I've linked a good option here.
About the Recipe - Easy and Spicy Asian Inspired Chili Oil Noodles
So now that you have your chili oil, let's talk about this recipe.
A lot of the inspiration for this recipe came from a recipe I posted a few weeks ago - my easy spicy sticky glazed Asian meatballs. I just loved putting a different spin on meatballs, and it got me thinking, what if I put a different spin on pasta?
Think of these noodles plus the meatballs as an Asian spaghetti and meatball recipe. My Italian ancestors are probably very upset with me, but hey, I like pushing boundaries....especially when they are this delicious.
The sauce is really, really good. It's sweet, it's spicy, and it has great umami flavor. When you add noodles and meatballs, this is just a big spicy bowl of comfort food.
As for the noodles, you can use your favorite kind, whether it's pasta, a rice noodle, or a noodle from your local Asian store. I used Healthy Noodle, an awesome product I found a while ago at Costco. It's essentially a low cal rice noodle, and it is delish!
I hope you guys love this one as much as I did. Be sure to comment and rate the recipe if you try it, and make sure you share it by clicking the share buttons for Pinterest or Facebook below!
