- Canned Chickpeas - drained and rinsed. The can might also say garbanzo beans - they're the same thing!
- Breadcrumbs - any style you like is good
- White onion - diced. You can also use red onion if you prefer.
- Cumin
- Turmeric
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Olive Oil - You can also use cooking spray if you prefer
Garlic Aioli Ingredients
- Greek Yogurt - full fat or nonfat, whichever you prefer
- Extra Virgin Olive Oil
- Lemon Juice
- Garlic Powder
- Onion Powder
- Salt
- Black Pepper
Step by Step Directions
Let's make this recipe together!
Step 1- Make the Aioli
Combine the greek yogurt, olive oil, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and black pepper in a medium bowl. Whisk well and set aside in the refrigerator.
Step 2 - Make the Patties
Mash chickpeas until broken down. You can do this in the food processor, but I used a potato masher. Either method will work just fine! Once chickpea mixture is mashed, combine them with breadcrumbs, white onion, cumin, turmeric, garlic powder, and onion powder in a large bowl.
Mix well and form patties, about 2-3 inches wide. You'll really have to press the patties together to shape them! If you're having an issue forming them into patties, you can add a regular egg or some flax egg to help bind everything together.
Step 3 - Cook the Patties
Heat a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Place patties in the skillet and cook for 5 minutes per side, or until golden brown. Serve with a dollop of aioli.

Hi! Recipe says it serves 4 but I couldn't find how many patties the recipe as written will make. Two of my four are big eaters! Best to double the recipe?
Christina Musgrave says
If they're big eaters I'd double just to make sure you have enough, and then if you have leftovers these are great in lunches! If you make a double batch I recommend using a food processor or even stand mixer to mix everything together, that will be much easier!
kathy says
Very yummy we are eating them right off the skillet, we did have to add additional egg and breadcrumbs but how wonderful!

I added zucchini for more veggies, but my patties didn’t stick properly. Any suggestions? Tastes great crumbled too!

If you're having trouble with them sticking, try adding an egg to bind!
