Fresh Radish and Herb Salad

This easy and fresh radish and herb salad will be your new favorite healthy side dish! This salad is flavorful, crunchy, and just so fresh.

This beautiful and fresh salad recipe is a great summer salad. It would be a great unique side dish to a barbecue or cookout.

Fresh radish and herb salad would also be a great light side dish with seafood.

Recipe Inspiration

I've been cooking a lot of recipes that called for radishes lately. I normally don't cook with them that often, but I've been surprised at their great flavor, texture, and natural spiciness.

I found myself with a lot of extra radishes on hand and was inspired to create a salad with them. But not just a regular salad! A salad with flavor, zing, and texture.

This salad uses white radishes and watermelon radishes. Both have a natural spice to them as well as a good crunch. These radishes are delicious paired with chopped red onion and cilantro.

The salad is topped with a tangy homemade dressing full of dijon mustard, apple cider vinegar, olive oil, and lemon juice. It's a great complement to the flavor of the radishes and herbs.

This easy radish salad is definitely a new favorite in our house!

Fresh Radish and Herb Salad Ingredients

Let's walk through the ingredients for this recipe.

• 2 tbsp extra virgin olive oil
• 1 tbsp Dijon mustard (check out my favorite Dijon here)
• 1 tsp lemon juice
• 1 tsp apple cider vinegar
• Pinch of salt and pepper
• 4 white radishes or turnips, cut into wedges
• 3 watermelon radishes, sliced
• 1 cup arugula
• ¼ cup chopped cilantro
• ¼ cup chopped red onion
• Fresh basil, for serving
• Lemon slices, for serving

You can use white radishes or turnips - whichever one you have on hand or can find at the grocery store works. The watermelon radishes add a pop of color to the salad - I just love them!

Recipe Instructions

This fresh radish and herb salad recipe is so simple. It's only three steps to make! How easy is that?

First, whisk together the extra virgin olive oil, Dijon mustard, lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, and pinch of salt and pepper in a small bowl. Set aside. 

Next, combine radishes, cilantro, and red onion. Drizzle with dressing and toss.

Finally, garnish with fresh basil and lemon slices.

Substitutions

If you don't like or cannot find a certain ingredient, here are some substitutions that are available for this recipe.

• Watermelon Radishes - If you cannot find or do not like watermelon radishes, you can simply just add more white radishes or turnips to this recipes.
• Cilantro - If you do not like cilantro, you can substitute this for Italian Parsley. It will still add freshness to the dish without the cilantro taste.
• Radishes - If you don't like radishes at all, this recipe would be delicious with roasted potatoes.

Variations

Want to change it up? Here are a few variations for this recipe:

• Creamy Dressing - If you prefer a creamier dressing, add 2 tbsp mayo to the salad dressing. This will make the salad dressing creamy.
• Sweeter Dressing - Add 1 tsp of sugar or agave to the salad dressing. This will sweeten it up a bit and balance out the spice of the radishes.
• More Herbs - If you want to add more herbs to this recipe, Dill, Oregano, or Thyme would all be good options for this recipe.
• Roasted Radishes - If you prefer radishes roasted, you can roast at 400 degrees F for 30 minutes before adding them to the salad.
• More Greens - Arugula would be a great addition to this salad to add more greens to this recipe!
